Gardening in 2019

I’m back! While I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus from blogging, I’ve been as busy as ever in the garden. We had another trying winter that resulted in a long and cool spring. I think that fared well for my irises and peonies, all past bloom by now. It would have been perfect spring weather for my root and cruciferous vegetables, had I not been so late getting them sown.

So far this season I’ve harvested my broccoli, lettuces, asparagus, garlic scapes, and radishes. A post on Riesling Pickled Radishes will be coming! Be on the look out! I’m in the midst of harvesting my snap peas (they’re a bit late this season. But better late than never!) and blackberries. Did someone say blackberry ice cream? Everything else looks amazing and is growing right along.

To celebrate my return to the blogosphere, I purchased a bunch of seed packets today from my favorite local seed provider, the Hudson Valley Seed Company to prepare from my upcoming fall planting.

I’m looking forward to sharing all of my gardening fun with you. I have lots planned with composting, sowing and reaping lots more of veggies, trying out some fun and delicious recipes, and making all that goodness last into the fall and winter through pickling, freezing and long-term storage.

Here’s a pic of this years garden just getting established:
